Tools to Help Understand PB Readiness
This project would help those who are looking for guidance on how to get a participatory budgeting (PB) process approved. It would add more creative, visual elements like a fillable budget calculator tool or a timeline planning roadmap that folks could play around with to start planning for PB. This project would add to and compliment resources being updated at PBP such as the scoping toolkit and PB manual.
Estimated Cost: $20,000
Trainings For Young PB Leaders
This Project would create a training "fund" for graphic design, filmmaking or community organizing trainings (or similar) for young people connected to or advocating for a PB process. Young people connected to PB process advocacy who are looking to participate in skill building would be able to apply to the "fund" for resources to learn new skills related to bringing PB to their community. Participating youth would be invited to apply these skills to support ongoing on the ground efforts where they are. This project would enhance the reach and effectiveness of local PB processes while building up the skills of local leaders. This would also grow the field by investing in professional skill building for people engaged in PB advocacy/developing materials.
Estimated Cost: $20,000
Art For Democracy Scholarships: Creating Youth Visions With PB
This project would invite young artists to contribute their creative visions to grow the movement of participatory budgeting and participatory democracy. Rather than a contest, this project would fund an opportunity to apply for "Youth Art for Democracy Scholarships." This program aims to engage youth to generate visual concept art that embodies the principles of Participatory Budgeting for use in the field. Selected artists would be funded to make their art real with the support of a mentor. This project will have two phases: 1) Inviting youth from across the United States to create visual concept art around the principles of Participatory Budgeting. 2) Three to six artists will be selected for “Youth Art for Democracy Scholarships.” Scholarships will be awarded to the winning youth to work with a co-local professional artist to further develop their concept art into a finished product that can be used in any process and be open source. A committee of reviewers to select the winners.
Estimated Cost: $20,000
Your Dollars, Your Decisions: PB Story Contest
This project would invite people to help PBP build our PB story video gallery and specifically help people with PB experience share it with the world. This will invite people to share stories of successful PB by video. To encourage a broad and diverse participation, if this project wins, PBP will design a social media engagement activity offering stipends to individuals who submit a qualifying video. This stipend is to acknowledge the effort and creativity of all participants and to ensure equitable compensation for their contributions. Winning videos will be displayed on the Participatory Budgeting Project’s website in a video gallery. The gallery will serve as a valuable resource for raising awareness about PB, showcasing successful cases, and inspiring those interested in implementing PB in their communities.
