D. Incorporate Public Art into Infrastructure Enhancements

This project will allocate $40,000 to commission public art installations that enhance infrastructure. Potential projects include artistic wayfinding signs, painted storm drains, and decorated electric boxes.

G. Install Wayfinding and Interpretive Signage for Diverse users at 5th District parks and rec sites

This project will replace outdated signage with new bilingual (Spanish/English) wayfinding and interpretive signs that include visual aids illustrating potential hazards, historical context, and ecological facts.

E. Enhance Community Gardens with New Features

This project will install secure storage sheds with locks, provide essential gardening tools, build better composting infrastructure, add timber for raised planting beds, improve irrigation, install benches, and plant native vegetation to support urban gardening efforts.

F. Expand Aging-in-Place and Accessibility Improvements at Petronius S. Jones Park

This project will install benches with backs along walking paths and provide shade structures over workout equipment at the corner of Idlewood and Allen Ave to improve usability for all residents.

H. Enhance skating facilities on the Southside

This project will add new technical skate features (such as rails and stair boxes) and explore the creation of an outdoor covered skate rink, similar to the one at Hotchkiss Park.

Health and Wellness

C. Enhance James River Branch Trail with New Amenities

This project will add emergency call stations and lighting every half mile, install trash cans with lids, dog waste stations, and bicycle racks with repair stations at each trail crossing, and introduce fitness stations, benches, picnic tables, and public art installations to improve safety and accessibility along the trail.

B. Install and Upgrade Bus Stop Shelters

This project will install new bus shelters or replace outdated ones with improved features such as public art, trash cans, and weather protection to enhance the transit experience.

A. Install Pedestrian Hub Beacons, Curb Bump-Outs

This project will introduce traffic calming solutions in high-risk areas with low pedestrian safety, reducing speeding and improving walkability; particularly in the following areas: Semmes /W. 21st / Hull St/ Evans/ Cary and McCloy Ellwood/ Auburn Ave/ Park Drive/Shirley Rd/ Midlothian Turnpike

Environment and Safety

I. Install Convex Mirrors at Low-Visibility Intersections

This project will install convex mirrors at key intersections where elevation changes and blind spots create visibility hazards for both pedestrians and drivers. Particularly at the following areas: Exit ramp off Powhite onto Douglasdale / 195 Byrd Park exit/ Parking deck at Carytown Exchange
