E. Beautify High-Traffic Bus Stop/ Intersection at Hull St and Evans St

This project will install a bus shelter, trash cans, planter boxes, tree wells, sidewalk block painting, and enhanced lighting at a high-traffic transit intersection to improve safety and aesthetics.

Estimated Cost: $100,000

A. Implement Neighborhood Road Safety Improvements

This project will install speed bumps on Ingram Road (between Richmond Highway & E 18th Street), bump-outs at intersections along Harwood Street, Lone Street, and Richmond Highway, and a roundabout at Afton Avenue & Columbia Street/Lynhaven Avenue to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

Estimated Cost: $80,000

B. Improve Access and Entrance at Davee Gardens

This project will install a bus shelter, trash can, flower pots, and a weather-proof free little library at Ruffin & Davee (Stop #2151) to improve accessibility and enhance the bus stop environment. PROVISIONAL

Parks and Recreation

G. Improve Hickory Hill Community Center and Garden

This project will install a rainwater collection system and a weather-proof free little library to support educational and gardening initiatives.

F. Plant Trees and Native Plants to Combat Urban Heat Islands

This project will help mitigate the environmental impact of urban heat islands by planting trees and native plants in collaboration with Parks & Rec and RVAGreen 2050 to strategically increase shade and cooling.

H. Repair Traffic Barrier and Improve Safety at Broad Rock Community Garden

This project will replace damaged fencing along East Broad Rock Road to improve safety and security at Broad Rock Community Garden.

I. Improve Pedestrian access at Blackwell Community Center

This project will enhance the crosswalk at Blackwell Community Center to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility for residents.

C. Enhance Bus Accessibility Along Richmond Highway and Key Corridors

This project will install new bus shelters and planter boxes at Stops 1387, 1416, and 1432 to improve transit accessibility and rider experience.

D. Install ‘Welcome to Southside’ Signage

This project will install two ‘Welcome to Southside’ signs at the entry points of the 8th District to promote neighborhood identity and visibility. (Final sign verbiage TBD.) Proposed locations: 400 Richmond Highway outside of DPU, intersects with Maury Street Hull Street and Belt Boulevard
