1. Alley resurfacing ($1,000,000)
What percentage of the total budget should go toward alleys?
Resurfacing is necessary to address alleys that have deteriorated, are safety hazards and are generally in poor condition. Residents, businesses and visitors to the 35th Ward will benefit from improved safety when traveling in the ward.
Menu money is the only available funding for alley resurfacing in Chicago’s wards. The base cost for alley resurfacing is $50,000 for asphalt resurfacing and $150,000 - $300,000 for concrete resurfacing. An average of $75,000 per alley is used for preliminary estimates.
Note: Alleys that will be repaired will be determined by the Alderman’s office with information submitted by residents at Idea Collection events, assessment by the Neighborhood Committees, residents submitted info via 311 and expert information from the Department of Transportation.
Alleys eligible for resurfacing will be posted on the 35th Ward website: www.aldermancarlosrosa.org/pb
