1. Two signs welcoming pedestrians to North Park and Albany Park on either ends of the Chicago River footbridge at Bernard and Carmen

There is currently space for 2 signs. We would encourage sign design submissions from the children in the area. This would inform pedestrians of their location.

Location: Where North Bernard Avenue and West Carmen Avenue meet the Chicago River footbridge.

   

2. Benches and Trash Cans on Bryn Mawr between Kedzie and Kimball

The North Park neighborhood is looking to be more welcoming. The addition of benches and trash cans would help beautify the area and encourage people to linger and throw their disposable trash in the can, not in the street.

Estimated Cost: $5,100

Location: On West Byrn Mawr Avenue between North Kedzie Avenue and North Kimball Avenue.

   

3. Benches and Trash Can on Jersey/Kedzie north of Bryn Mawr

This area is in need of beautification. Trash cans and benches around Hollywood Park would help keep the area clean and inviting.

Estimated Cost: $5,100

Location: On North Jersey Avenue/North Kedzie Avenue just North of West Bryn Mawr Avenue.

   

4. Streetscaping on West Lawrence Avenue from North Pulaski Avenue to North Cicero Avenue ($33,000 -$75,000)

The addition of trash cans, benches and bike racks would enhance the walkability of this commercial area.

Estimated Cost: $33,000

Location: On West Lawrence Avenue between North Pulaski Avenue and North Cicero Avenue.

   

5. Peterson Park welcome signs at North St Louis Avenue and West Peterson Avenue and West Devon Avenue and North Springfield Avenue

Recognizing Peterson Park with signs would help promote a feeling of community and neighborhood branding.

Location: At North Saint Louis Avenue and North Peterson Avenue, and West Devon Avenue and North Springfield Avenue.

6. Green Space at Volta Elementary School

Transformation of school’s concrete playground into a beautiful Green Space for the benefit of students and community residents alike. The Green Space will promote unity, safety, health and physical fitness for the diverse group of 800+ students who are fluent in 34 different languages.

Estimated Cost: $400,000

Location: Volta Elementary School.

   

7. Pollinator Learning Gardens

The pollinator gardens will focus on the fascinating world of honeybees and will educate and inspire the next generation on the importance of honeybees, preservation, biology, sustainable agriculture and planting for pollinators. Sauganash Park attracts 7,000 users, Volta Elementary School has 808 students, and Sauganash Elementary School has 632 students.

Estimated Cost: $16,850

Location: Sauganash Park, Volta Elementary School, and Sauganash Elementary School.

   

8. Outdoor Drinking Fountain at Sauganash Elementary School

Outdoor water fountains will serve private/public spaces for over 600+ students and community residents alike who utilize the playgrounds year around. Free, clean drinking water not only provides convenience and hydration it also promotes reduction in the use of plastic bottles for water and sodas.

Environment & Safety

9. Sidewalk Repair in Hollywood/North Park at Peterson Elementary School

Over 900 students and family members enter Peterson School via entrances on Christiana Ave. The sidewalk routinely floods with several inches of water to wade through, leaving conditions unsanitary and hazardous. Identify and address source of flooding, remove and replace all affected sidewalk slabs.

Estimated Cost: $40,000

10. Repair Sidewalk Collapse in Sauganash at North Lowell Avenue and West Granville Avenue underpass

This main route connecting Sauganash/Sauganash Park and walking/bike path to Skokie/Valley Line Trail is used by children, area residents, dog owners & seniors to access schools, churches, area restaurants, park, play lot & nature trails. With no maintenance since 1950, the underpass is in disrepair with severe trip hazards (1-2”cement drops/jagged pieces) and not ADA compliant.

Estimated Cost: $30,000

Location: At North Lowell Avenue and West Granville Avenue Underpass.

   

11. Improve Pedestrian Crossing/ADA Accessibility in Sauganash at West Devon Avenue and North Cicero Avenue

Make this busy intersection safer for pedestrians of all abilities. Repair curb cuts and sidewalk pavement, install tactile warning surfaces on the southeast corner of Devon and Cicero (to match other corners of the intersection).

Estimated Cost: $12,000

Location: At West Devon Avenue and North Sauganash Avenue.

   

12. Address Crossing Hazard in Sauganash

Children and parents must cross Peterson Ave. at Kilpatrick and Forest Glen during morning rush hour to get to/from elementary schools. Peterson is a four-lane feeder to 90/94 and nearby Metra station. Install traffic calming measures, including additional signage and refuge island to protect pedestrians.

Estimated Cost: $125,000

Location: At West Peterson Avenue and North Kilpatrick Avenue.

   

13. Repair Sidewalks at Eugene Field Park in Albany Park 6 slabs

Sidewalks outside the entrances to Eugene Field Park are crumbling and present trip hazards for park patrons, including children and seniors, and passing pedestrians. Remove and replace sidewalks with new concrete slabs.
