1. Street Resurfacing
What percentage of the total budget should go toward street resurfacing?
Resurfacing is necessary to address streets and sidewalks that have deteriorated, are safety hazards and are generally in poor condition. Residents, businesses and visitors to the 40th Ward will benefit from improved safety when traveling in the ward.
Menu money is the only available funding for residential street and sidewalk resurfacing in Chicago’s wards. Thanks to a federal subsidy, the cost for the first five blocks of resurfaced streets is $43,500 per block. The average cost for each street resurfaced in addition the initial five is $72,000.

A. Sculpture on Budlong Woods Public Library
The creation of the sculpture project will address the need to focus on the diversity of the 40th Ward, while addressing the value of learning using library resources. It will bring attention to the youth preferably as it relates to learning and environmental issues.

D. Pedestrian Island on Western and Winnemac
This project will install concrete pedestrian island on the south side crosswalk at Western and Winnemac. This crosswalk is the only way to cross Western between Foster and Lincoln/Ainslie. Installing this will allow people to safely cross Western and also slow down speeding cars on Western Avenue.

E. Water Fountain Installation/Improvements
This project covers drinking fountain installation and improvement requests at multiple sites. A water fountain installation will be implemented in Mellin Park by Ashland and Bryn Mawr. Drinking fountain improvements will be at Mather Park near the soccer court and Green Briar Park along Talman Avenue.
