Street and Alley Resurfacing and Sidewalk and Curb Repairs
What percentage of the total budget should go toward street and alley resurfacing and sidewalks and curb repairs? (Select one option.)
Please note that an average of all ballots cast will determine the final menu allocation. The remaining funds will then be allocated to the most popular projects until the $1 million runs out. Since the allocation will be an average of all ballots cast, you do not need to make your ballot add up to $1 million.
Menu money is the only available funding for residential streets, alley, and sidewalk resurfacing in Chicago’s Wards.
The average cost for the first five blocks of resurfaced streets is $43,500 per block. Due to federal requirements for accessibility ramps, the average cost for any street resurfaced after the first five blocks is $72,000 per block.
The average estimated cost for the first alley resurfaced $31,500. The estimated cost for subsequent alleys is $49,500.
The average cost to replace a block sidewalk is $75,000 and the average cost to replace one block of curbs is $80,000.
