New Outdoor Dining Space in North Sacramento

Creating space for outdoor dining can improve our community. Food vendors will sell meals in an open-air location with tables, chairs, and trash cans. An ideal location would be easy to access and have available parking. This project will require an implementing organization with event organizing experience that can successfully secure a property to host the outdoor dining space within the available budget.

Estimated Cost: $100,000

Garden and Farmers Market

This project would support mobile farmers markets to offer affordable food, cooking classes and community education to community members, particularly youth in Del Paso Heights. Funds may also go towards the establishment of a non-mobile garden space in Del Paso Heights to support the cultivation and harvesting of locally grown produce to also be sold at low cost at the mobile markets.

Estimated Cost: $150,000

North Sacramento Elders Collective

The North Sacramento Elders Collective will provide support for the senior citizen (55+) population living in North Sacramento (D2). Many of our elders live alone and have difficulty accessing the resources that add value to their lives and directly increase the quality of their lives. This project would help establish a living, learning community, and a hub for direct access to services. The Elders Collective would involve resource professionals to aid the seniors in navigating various local program resources and assist with making in person appointments on behalf of the senior community members. In addition, Measure U funding may provide non-emergency medical travel vouchers and basic transportation support (e.g., ridesharing). Transportation may also be provided by local community members who would “adopt a senior” and receive a gas card for their time and support.

Estimated Cost: $103,000

A Second Chance Career Opportunity for the Youth

This project is targeting youth from 17 to 22 years. Not all youths are college bound, ready for the military or prepared for a job, and this is especially true to the youth that reside in North Sacramento who may not have any direction. The North Sacramento Youth in the D2 area need other outlets to launch them into careers. A 3 month summer job/internship that provides work experience in a trade or computer skills can be the spark that their mind needs to alter their direction. A maximum of 20 candidates will be required to enroll into an application process. Screening will be done by the non-profit that will be assigned (and possibly the sponsoring city department).

Estimated Cost: $200,000
