Knapsack Voting

In a Knapsack Vote, a budget cap is set for the ballot. Voters choose any number of projects, keeping the total cost of their chosen projects at or below the budget cap. After all votes are cast, winning projects are chosen in order according to the total number of votes they received, until the budget cap is reached.

Provide free access to college tours for youths in ZIP Code 98178. Program caters to tours of historically black colleges and universities. This is a direct grant to Life Enrichment Group.

Free apprenticeship training focusing on radio broadcasting/communications. This is a direct grant to Rainier Avenue Radio.

Provide free pop-up arts/crafts workshops for youths and all ages. Culturally responsive art/craft projects that targeting historically underrepresented youths. This is a direct grant to Claudia V Designs.

. Grant Program – Youth and Education Programs and Services

Create a program to provide grants of up to $75,000 for community organizations to create youth and education programming in Skyway with a focus on historically underserved community members. Examples include foreign language education/free English education, participatory budgeting in schools, urban agricultural programs, financial health and literacy for youth, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics apprenticeship programs, swimming lessons, art classes, and subsidies for athletic league fees.

. Grant Program – Community Development and Capacity Building

Create a program to provide grants of up to $120,000 for community organizations to support capacity building and community development in Skyway with a focus on Equity and Social Justice. Examples include food programs, including food banks and mobile meal delivery; transitional housing programs that serve low-income residents; free or subsidized laundry service for low-income residents; culturally competent pre-natal, midwife, and doula services; food access programs such as farmer’s markets, food vouchers, or expanding acceptance of public assistance; business support, including technical assistance, entrepreneur training, start-up funding, and small business planning and training; and community art programs.
