Deliver critical supplies to unhoused residents through established programs, including items such as socks, hats, gloves, hand warmers, feminine hygiene products, and other items to assist people living in unsheltered situations.
Estimated Cost: $50,000
Location: Citywide.
Expand Access to Free Public Wi-Fi in Inman Square
Expand internet access by installing free public Wi-Fi in Mayor Alfred Vellucci Park in Inman Square. This proposal will further advance equitable internet access to Cambridge residents.
Estimated Cost: $75,000
Location: Alfred Vellucci Park in Inman Square.
Floating Bus Stops: Improved Safety for Cyclists and Bus Riders
A 'floating bus stop' is when a bus stops along the street, and a bike lane separates the bus lane and sidewalk. This project will build two floating bus stops for safer travel and benefit people walking, people on bicycles, and bus users.
Estimated Cost: $250,000
Location: To be determined based on impact and need assessments.
Electric Vehicle Chargers
Install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at three city-owned parking lots and other locations designated by the City. More public chargers support EV adoption, which improves air quality and benefits our environment.
Estimated Cost: $350,000
Location: To be determined based on need and impact assessments.
Extend Weekend Hours at War Memorial Pools
Expand swim hours on weekends at the War Memorial pools for three years. Saturday evenings would open an hour later, and Sunday mornings would open an hour earlier. This proposal will fund the operating expenses for extended swimming time.
Estimated Cost: $50,000
Location: War Memorial Recreation Center.
Improve Safety for Pedestrians
Improve safety for people who use the sidewalk to get to schools, hospitals, and senior living facilities. This project will install raised crosswalks, interactive speed limit signs, and flashing crosswalk signs to assist with safe travel.
Estimated Cost: $400,000
Location: Public schools, hospitals, senior living facilities.
Expanding Space for Street Trees
Help our environment by removing pavement to expand space for new and existing trees. Removing pavement provides more soil space for tree roots, helps trees live longer and healthier, improves drainage, and reduces city heat.
Estimated Cost: $100,000
Location: To be determined based on need and impact assessments.
Fund Public Toilet for Park Upgrade
Improve park accessibility and hygiene with a durable, eco-friendly, public restroom. Previously PB funded Portland Loos are being designed for Flagg Street, and Cambridge Common. This PB proposal would fund an additional location.
Estimated Cost: $500,000
Location: Ongoing or upcoming renovation of a community park.
Expand Access to Veterinary Care for Seniors and Low-Income Communities
Improve access to veterinary care for residents with financial and mobility difficulties. This proposal will provide free check-ups, vaccine clinics, pet grooming, dental care, and mobile van services for three years.
Estimated Cost: $200,000
Location: Low-income housing, senior living facilities, and other areas of need.
Shaded Seats on Hot Streets
Create 3-5 shaded seating areas in busy areas most in need of shade and seating. Each area will be 300 to 500 square feet and include shade canopies and inviting places to sit: bench swings, chairs, tables, and communal seating.
Estimated Cost: $450,000
Location: To be determined based on need and impact assessments.
Smart Traps for Rat Reduction
Purchase, place, and maintain 100 additional Smart Boxes (rat traps) for rodent reduction and data collection. Adding these traps would expand existing pest control measures through 2027.
Estimated Cost: $360,000
Location: To be determined based on need and impact assessments.
Let's Help Cambridge Residents Buy Bicycles

Location: City-owned properties (Cambridge Public Libraries, Fire departments, City department buildings, youth centers).
The Cambridge Women's Heritage Project
Celebrate the under-recognized contributions of diverse Cambridge women. Fund research and oral history interviews to triple the number of featured women. Redesign the current project website to boost collaboration with schools and libraries.
Estimated Cost: $60,000
Location: City of Cambridge website.
Build Two Bus Shelters
Install bus shelters at two bus stops. Locations will be selected to benefit the greatest number of riders. Providing accessible, safe, and comfortable shelters encourages use of public transportation and supports the City's environmental goals.
Estimated Cost: $400,000
Location: To be determined based on need and impact assessments.
