Outdoor Exercise Equipment

Let’s make exercise and fitness more accessible by installing outdoor exercise equipment in a park! Equipment made for exercise allows for greater range of physical activity and decreases wear and tear on other park furniture.

Pool Dryers and Equipment

Buy swimsuit dryers and new pool equipment for city-owned swimming pools. Equipment will include things like kickboards, flippers, and improved shower fixtures. This will make it safer, easier and more fun for all to enjoy our pools.

Location: War Memorial & Gold Star pools.

   

Basketball Court Upgrades

Cambridge’s basketball courts are heavily used by the community, which leads to wear and tears. Funding will support upgrades for courts across the city, keeping courts safe, in good condition, and accessible for all ages to play.

Winter Indoor Recreation Open Hours

Kids and families need more places to play during cold winters. Let’s provide a warm, indoor option with open play hours on one weekend a month at rotating Youth Centers in the winter. Kids under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Dog Park Improvements

This project will install needed improvements at a dog park, like agility equipment and improved ground cover. These improvements will help make dog parks safer and more enjoyable year-round.

Community Resources

Weather Kits for the Cold and Rain

Provide warm and water-proof gear to help our unhoused community members stay safe during cold and wet weather. Gear could include thermal clothes, raincoats, weather-proof sleeping bags, and sturdy boots.

Transportation Assistance Services

Provide transportation assistance to low-income and unhoused residents for important appointments. These include getting to appointments for housing court, cash and food benefits, family shelter, and healthcare.

Estimated Cost: $50,000

Supporting Continuous Access to School Supplies

Provide school and craft supplies in school libraries and classrooms so all students can use them. The goal is to make sure every Cambridge student has the materials they need to finish school projects.

Estimated Cost: $12,000

Location: Cambridge Public Schools for 3 years.

   

Support Spaces for Artists

This project will provide funding for Cambridge artists in all media to access space to create art. This could include studio rental support, maker space memberships, and studio emergency costs.

My Future, My Vote

Give a "vote tote" bag to all young voters with information on local, state, and federal elections and voter registration. The City and student groups will hold a design contest for each year's tote bag.

Improvements for Safer Streets

Improve dangerous intersections with upgrades like better crosswalks, countdown signals, bike safety signals, and raised crossings based on results from the Roadway Safety Audit.

Fixing Sidewalks, Saving Trees

Use flexible pavement or other necessary interventions to improve uneven or damaged sidewalks near trees. Improvements will give tree roots room to grow while making sidewalks safe and accessible for everyone.

Concrete Barriers for Bike Lanes

Purchase and place concrete barriers to divide roads from bike lanes. Concrete barriers are a durable solution for improving bike safety and may reduce the cost of maintaining bollards.

Free Bikes for Low-Income Residents

Expand the bike ownership program to allow more Cambridge residents to access a dependable and eco-friendly form of transit. This program provides support for qualifying residents to have their own pedal bikes, e-bikes, cargo bikes, or adaptive bikes.

Bike Counters

Install permanent and short-term bike counters throughout the city. Bike counting stations collect data for the City to inform public policy and projects. Data can inform future bike lane construction and ensure the City meets the needs of all road users.

Outdoor Tools for Loan

It's annoying to buy a rake you’ll use for only once a year! This program would fund trash grabbers, shovels rakes, and more that can be borrowed from DPW to give you the tools to keep Cambridge’s neighborhoods clean.

Improve Riverside Press Park Community Garden

Fix and build more garden areas and plots at the Riverside Press Community Garden.

Rain and Pollinator Gardens

Build more pollinator and rain gardens in Cambridge! They attract bees and butterflies and help limit puddling after storms.

Planters for Sidewalk Trees

Add flowers and plants to sidewalk tree wells near you! This project will provide planters that go around the trunk of a tree by community request. These can be requested with or without plants.

Estimated Cost: $75,000

Location: Citywide for 3 years.

   

Residential Rat Control

Buy and maintain 25-30 electric rat traps to place outside residential homes that have ongoing rat problems. This project would expand the existing residential rat control program.

Location: Citywide at qualifying residential properties for up to 3 years.
